Bats, parties, and banana curry pizza
Hello All! Sorry for the long lull in the posts. Tonight is opening night and everyone has been scrambling for the past week and a half to stay on schedule. A lot of stuff has happened despite my busy agenda. I have a TON of photos to post, but I'll try to spread them out.
Yesterday I got tags for my car!!! I am so excited. New York laws are crazy and seem pretty stringent. It's such a hassle.
Here's the station wagon and here's me being an independent woman and screwing the tags on.
Adrienne, who's pretty much been driving me around for the past two weeks, lost her keys, so I took her back to Malton Place for lunch and made her and Danielle banana curry pizza. They were a bit suspicious at first, but like everyone else, they naturally succumed to the delightful blend of fruit and indian spice. These are from a few hours ago.
The ingredients
The beautiful finished product
Us being excited about the hybrid cuisine
And, a photo, poorly taken by me in which the majority of Adrienne's head has been accidentally cut off.
There are three main places where interns live: Spruce Haven, where I am, Malton Place, where I had lunch, and The Big House, in Richfield Springs. I spent the night at Malton yesterday and the day before, and although I'm in my room at Spruce Haven right now, I probably won't sleep here tonight either. Why? Well, you see there is a bit of a situation here. We have a bat. We have multiple bats. In fact, word is that 15 bats where found in the attic last night and killed. When I came home a few days ago I noticed a strange man in our kitchen. See below for a visual reference.
He told me that we have a bat loose upstairs and noone can be up there because if someone were to get bit, they would need a series of rabies shots. There's a magnet on our fridge about bats and where to get rabies shots. I thought it was a joke when I first got here. Not so . . . The bat guy was holding a beat up tennis racket when I walked in and told me that it was for whacking the bats. "Are you serious?" I asked, nearly about to burst into laughter. "Yep. Whack 'em down and then put them in a coffee can." He told me his wife saves all their empty coffee cans for him. AWW. Isn't that just the sweetest thing? Geez. My life is hysterical. I just have to point that out. For now the upstairs is roped off, but we sneak up here during the day and just try our best not to stick our hands too deep into the closets.
I have no idea what they are planning on doing about this, they being the housing department. I mean, I know it's an odd problem, but it IS a problem and needs to be remedied ASAP. We can't have someone on patrol with a tennis racket just waiting for the bat to poke it's little head out. WHO KNOWS?
Well, I hope someone reads this! I will post pictures from the fourth tomorrow or later on today. I went to a parade, which was amazing and also the opera had a float. We won first place in the float contest! I've got to go get ready for tonight. I have some photos to snap and then I'm working at the audience services desk during the performance. Afterwards the opera hosts a party! I bought a dress in Albany last week to wear, so I assure you, there will be more pictures soon.
I love everyone! I'm sorry if I haven't been in close contact, but now you know why!
